A member of ASTA since 1995, Teresa Hernandez received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1986 from Marymount College of KS in Salina. She taught in the Omaha Public Schools and Millard (NE) Public Schools from 1991-1998 while playing in the Omaha Symphony as a per-service cellist (1991-2000). She received a Master’s degree in Social Welfare from KU in 2005. A native of Salina, she returned there in 2009 to begin a part-time private practice, play in the Salina Symphony and open the Great Playn’s Music Program, currently suspended. In her clinical practice she specializes in trauma treatment and is bilingual in Spanish. She completed specialized training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Internal Family Systems, two clinical modalities that form the foundation of her clinical approach. Prior to 2020 she managed a double career, both teaching part-time in the Great Playn's Music Program and working part-time in mental health settings. Since the Covid-19 pandemic she focuses full-time on her private practice psychotherapy services although she continues to play in the Salina Symphony and currently has one cello student.
