2024 KASTA Summer Conference Attendees

Dr. David Pope presenting on rhythm games

On July 19th and 20th, the Kansas chapter of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) held its annual KASTA Summer String Workshop at the Wichita State University School of Music. Over 30 attendees from all corners of Kansas attended the event. Presentations by the distinguished Dr. David Pope, associate professor of music education and chair of the professional studies department at the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts, included rhythm games and a breaking down of score analysis.

Workshop attendees also enjoyed an instrument bootcamp on secondary instruments, a concert by the Summer Middle School Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Mark Laycock, lunch provided by Palen Music and D’Addario, and a session on string making by D’Addario’s own Nicole Melrose. Special thanks to President Martha Barnhill for organizing the workshop, and Dan McCready for organizing the Summer Middle School Orchestra.

Looking forward to next year’s workshop!
