Another 2023 KASTA Summer String Workshop in the Books!

On July 14th and 15th, the Kansas chapter of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) held its annual KASTA Summer String Workshop at the Wichita State University School of Music. Over 30 attendees from all corners of Kansas attended the event. Presentations by the distinguished Dr. Rebecca MacLeod, Professor of Music Education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, included culturally responsive teaching, setting beginning students up for success, developing a beautiful bow arm, achieving an artistic vibrato, and increasing creativity in the classroom. Workshop attendees also enjoyed an instrument bootcamp on secondary instruments, a concert by the Summer Middle School Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Mark Laycock, lunch provided by Senseney Music and D’Addario, and a session on string making by D’Addario’s own Nicole Melrose. Special thanks to President Martha Barnhill for organizing the workshop, and Dan McCready for organizing the Summer Middle School Orchestra.

Be sure to come see us next year!
